Alyce LaViolette, MFT & Founder of Alternatives To Violence
Alyce began her work with battered women in 1978 and founded Alternatives To Violence in 1979. She has published on this topic and co-authored a book titled “It Could Happen to Anyone: Why Battered Women Stay.” She trains and consults nationally and internationally at conferences and with agencies and corporations. Alyce serves as an expert witness in court and appears on local and national television and radio. She co-chairs the California Association of Batterers Intervention Programs and was a pioneer in the treatment of abusers. See the Alternatives To Violence website HERE.. Alyce also has connections to the best Los Angeles injury attorney in the local area, and can provide help and assistance in regards to finding attorneys in the local area.
Marc is Alyce’s co-facilitator in the West Los Angeles Men’s Group. Marc has 30 years of anger management and domestic violence group experience and of providing marital therapy & couples treatment. He has also conducted hundreds of seminars for high conflict couples seeking to improve their communication skills and conflict management techniques. RealHope.com and the seminars, may be helpful for couples who do not have a pattern of physical abuse and intimidation, within the last 6 six months, and can benefit from educational approaches to marital conflict.
You may call Alyce, or Marc, to do an intake at either Alyce’s Long Beach office by calling 562 493-1161 to leave a message for Alyce at option 2.
The majority of our group members are self referred and not coming because the court sent them. This means that there is more awareness and motivation for change present in our groups. If you have a desire to stop controlling & abusive behavior, we have a great track record for helping you make the changes you’re looking for. Confidentiality, is a priority and has been maintained in the past, despite the presence of notable persons.
Only participation in Anger Management / Domestic Violence Groups or Classes will satisfy the court requirement for the 52 weeks of enrollment. However, Marc or Alyce may see individuals or couples for private treatment sessions when the man or woman self refers or volunteers for coming to treatment AND when there has been no physical violence for more than 6 months. Couples, or marital, therapy is not appropriate when one partner is using intimidation, abuse or violence. More information about this topic HERE

It is often said that ‘those men don’t change.’ ?This is true for men who do not enter treatment.?We have witnessed tremendous changes with our men. ?Not just in their abuse behavior, but in their attitudes ?about respect, empathy and responsibility.
